A few months ago I stumbled on an IDE named Aptana and I instantly recognized
that it was the perfect IDE for developers who have found it difficult to
convert to CFEclipse. And why is it such a great replacement?
For starters Aptana is actually based on Eclipse. That means it has all the
great features that you've heard of about Eclipse, including the ability to
use the CFEclipse plug-in with it. You can install CFEclipse the same way
you'd install it for Eclipse, and there's almost no difference in how it
works. (Figure 1)
But why is this any better than Eclipse? Well, the biggest roadblock for new
CFEclipse users is the project-base workflow that it requires. But Aptana
supports both the project-based workflow and the traditional file-based
workflow that these users are accustomed to. This is huge, because it means
that developers can continue to work the way the... (more)
"It has been a long time coming and includes a lot of new features and
polish," said Chris Wiiliams, who runs the RadRails project. "We're
especially proud of the progress we've made here at Aptana since we took over
the project. RadRails 0.7.2 users will definitely want to check out this new
release - it offers a more stable environment, full Rails 2.0 support,
support for JRuby, and a boatload of new features."
Williams' comments came as Aptana today released RadRails 1.0 for Aptana
Studio, a development plugin for Aptana Studio which itself can run
standalone or be plugged int... (more)
Aptana has announced the 1.0 release of Aptana Jaxer and the introduction of
Jaxer Pro, both "AJAX servers" that let developers create entire web
applications using the ubiquitous set of languages common to web browsers:
JavaScript, DOM, CSS, and HTML. To achieve this, Jaxer embeds the open source
Mozilla Firefox browser engine within a server so that developers can have
the same execution environment on the application server as they have in the
web browser - a simplification of web technologies that reduces complexity in
the development and management of web applications. Jaxer... (more)

concrete reason.
Setting aside all the marketing buzzwords that will get thrown in
"scalability" / "on-demand" / "deploy", a cloud offering has to deliver on
its hype.
For me when words like those are thrown around I want to see:
Scalability
The ability to start u... (more)
